Pulpotomy is a conservative endodontic procedure performed mainly in primary teeth with extensive caries or pulp exposure. In this treatment, the infected or inflamed coronal pulp is removed while the healthy radicular pulp is preserved. After pulp removal, a medicament such as formocresol, MTA, calcium hydroxide, or glutaraldehyde is placed over the remaining pulp tissue, followed by restoration of the tooth. The procedure aims to maintain tooth vitality, prevent infection, preserve function, and retain the tooth until its normal exfoliation, ensuring proper development and alignment of permanent teeth.
