New Released Crop Varieties of AAU-ZRS, Diphu

Rice is the most prominent cereal crop and staple food for the people of Assam, India where it is also called as ‘Rice is life’. It plays a vital role in the food security of the people of the State. AAU-ZRS, Diphu is the only research station of the Hills Zone of Assam. Unique agro-climatic situation of the zone and diverse soil type, crop breeding was pursued in the target environments ultimately resulted in the development of several crop varieties viz., seven rice varieties( Inglongkiri, Rongkhang, Dehangi, Haccha, Langpi, Diyung and Amreng) and one sesame variety(AST-1) already released by CVRC and notified for the State of Assam, and one chilli variety(Bireek-2) already recommended for the state by SVRC, Assam. This book includes the details of the above crop varieties which were developed from AAU-ZRS, Diphu from the beginning of the station to 2023.
