Abstract

Medicinal plants have been a cornerstone of traditional medicine for centuries, offering a vast array of remedies for various ailments. However, with rapid industrialization, urbanization, population growth, and environmental degradation, the availability of many important medicinal plants has significantly declined. This depletion, coupled with the emergence of new diseases, drug resistance, and the increasing need for novel therapeutic agents, underscores the urgent need for preserving and cultivating medicinal plants. In response to this challenge, the Vijaya Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences for Women (VIPW), located in Enikepadu, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, under the management of SRK Foundation, has taken proactive measures to address this issue by establishing a medicinal plant garden. The garden is home to 166 medicinal plant species from 62 diverse plant families, including 55 plants with a rich history of ancient medicinal use. This book provides an in-depth exploration of these medicinal plants, detailing their taxonomical classifications, morphological characteristics, traditional uses, phytochemical properties, and pharmacological activities. It also includes valuable information on the propagation methods of these plants, offering practical insights for researchers, cultivators, and enthusiasts alike. The documentation emphasizes the importance of growing and conserving these invaluable resources to ensure a sustainable future for herbal medicine and human health.
