Description
The Book " Unveiling the Sacred Groves and Their Medicinal Plant Wealth in the Southern Western Ghats of Tamil Nadu, India" is a book on Sacred groves, revered patches of forest protected by local communities for religious and cultural reasons, represent one of the oldest forms of habitat conservation in India. These groves are often associated with temples and deities, acting as living museums of biodiversity and tradition. This book presents a comprehensive floristic study of three important sacred groves located in the Pollachi Taluk of Tamil Nadu: the Palatrangarai Aatheeswarar - Anjaneyar Temple Grove, the Nandha Gopalasamy Hill Temple Grove, and the Utharakaliyamman Sacred Grove. All the groves are present under important place in foot hills of Southern Western Ghats of Pollachi regions. Till now no books have been published on Sacred grove and its feature. The book is well prepared by visiting the above study area very often. It is found that each grove, though unique in location and ecological character, contributes significantly to the preservation of indigenous flora, including medicinal, keystone, and endemic species. The study highlights not only the rich botanical diversity but also the cultural importance of these sites, which are deeply intertwined with local traditions and religious practices. This work aims to raise awareness about the ecological and spiritual significance of sacred groves, while emphasizing the urgent need for their conservation. In the face of increasing anthropological pressures and infrastructural developments, this study stands as a first of its kind for the region, documenting valuable baseline data and calling for sustainable practices to protect these irreplaceable ecosystems for future generations.
