Description

Plant breeding is widely described as the changes that plants undergo as a result of human usage. Traditional breeding is a selective breeding process in which crops are chosen based on their enhanced performance. The most well-known traditional breeding procedures were pure-line selections, mass selection, back cross breeding, recurrent selection, and hybridisation. It is a more time-consuming breeding approach that depends mainly on plant phenotype. However, phenotypes of a plant are affected by various externalities. So, selection based on phenotypic expression is not accurate. As a result, breeders began incorporating diverse fields of biology into plant breeding and developing advance breeding techniques. Genomic selection, marker-assisted breeding, high throughput phenotyping, and CRISPR-Cas9 are among the most prevalent advance breeding approaches.

The book is an invaluable resource, though it may be too dense for casual readers.
