Description
An assessment of local tree and shrub fodders in arid and semi-arid zones of Kenya where 80% of the ruminant livestock and shrubland is found. The tree fodders or forage can be greatly harnessed to support livestock production during the dry seasons when grasses are scarce. The fodders are rich in crude protein, major minerals and minor minerals, which are necessary in the diets for improved animal production. Maerua angolensis and Zizyphus mucronata are valuable and can be supplemented at 20gkg-1W0.75 or mixed with maize germ at 25gDMkg-1W0.75 to improve weight gains of growing goats.
