A monograph on a special pathogen “Macrophomina phaseolina” is inked because of its heroic presence everywhere!!!! The causative agent is a widespread soil-borne fungus. It can lead to problems like root rot, stem rot, charcoal rot, and seedling blight. This fungus is particularly damaging to mungbean, soybean, sorghum, and peanut yields in conditions of high temperature and low soil moisture. M. phaseolina strong persistence in soil as microsclerotia and its vast host range make disease treatment difficult. Therefore, it is essential for controlling the pathogen to comprehend the basis of the pathogenicity processes and its interactions with host plants. To achieve a responsible control of M. phaseolina, with minimal impacts to the environment and natural resources, this compendium aims to describe the pathogen's general characteristics and pathogenicity mechanisms, as well as the host's defence response.
