Description

The rapid spread of Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) bacteria poses a critical threat to global health, making the discovery of novel antibacterial agents essential. This book explores the potential of Mur ligases, a family of bacterial enzymes crucial for peptidoglycan biosynthesis, as promising drug targets. Focus is placed on Bordetella bronchialis, a respiratory pathogen with a significant role in human infections. Through in silico approaches, the book offers a comprehensive structural characterization of the MurE ligase in B. bronchialis, which is highly selective for both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. This research opens avenues for the development of new antibacterial therapies.

Abstract

The rise of Multi-Drug Resistant (MDR) bacteria, particularly in respiratory pathogens like Bordetella bronchialis, has intensified the need for novel antibacterial targets. Mur ligases, which are essential for bacterial peptidoglycan synthesis and lack human homologs, offer an ideal target for drug development. This book investigates the structural properties of MurE ligase in B. bronchialis, an important Gram-negative pathogen associated with respiratory infections. Using computational tools and homology modeling, the study characterizes the enzyme's structure, highlighting its potential as a target for developing new antibacterial therapies against MDR bacteria.

The case studies were incredibly valuable, but I wish there were more visual aids for clarity.
